Cyclone Tauktae: What does it mean, how is it named and more

Serious cyclonic tempest Tauktae that is floating over Saurashtra in Gujarat would debilitate slowly into a cyclonic tempest during the following three hours on Tuesday. The twister has unleashed ruin in any event five Indian states, remembering Gujarat and Maharashtra for as far back as two days.

In any event 21 individuals were dead and 96 were absent on Tuesday after Tauktae hammered into western India, intensifying the hopelessness for a great many other people who are bearing a staggering Covid flood. On Monday, the cyclonic tempest killed six individuals in Maharashtra and eight individuals in Karnataka.

Albeit the typhoon was one of the fiercest to hit the territory in many years, the Internet is in parts over the impossible to miss name "Tauktae".

What does cyclone Tauktae mean?

Cyclone Tauktae (pronounced as Tau'Te) has got its name from India's neighbouring country Myanmar, which means "Gecko", Praveen Kumar, IFS, shared this trivia on Twitter. Gecko is a highly vocal lizard in Burmese dialect, Kumar added.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is among six RSMCs on the planet that have been ordered to name hurricanes in the north Indian Ocean district.

The WMO and UN ESCAP involve India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Pakistan, and Oman. In 2018, the WMO and ESCAP included five additional nations - Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

A year ago, the IMD delivered rundown of 169 new typhoons, which were recommended by 13 nations.

     Why cyclones are named?

The cyclones are named to make it easier for people to remember and identify the storms. With a name, it is easy to create awareness and to send out alerts, and remove confusion where there are multiple cyclonic systems over a region.

What will be the name of the next cyclone?

The following tornado will be called 'Yaas', a name was given by Oman. From that point onward, typhoon 'Gulab' will make landfall around there. Pakistan has recommended twister Gulab's name. According to the IMD, the tornadoes that are probably going to hit the area in the coming months incorporate Shaheen (the name given by Qatar), Jawad (the name given by Saudi Arabia), Asani (a name proposed by Sri Lanka), Sitrang (a name recommended by Thailand), Mandous (a name recommended by UAE), and Mocha (a name recommended by Yemen).
